A Summer Cocktail Hour
Summer time is almost here and many brides want to have their events take place outside. Be very careful with this. Many think since there is no snow and the temperature is warmer, it’s a best to host the cocktail hour outdoors. We recommend bride’s have this indoors, especially if the ceremony is outdoors, to give your guests a break from the sun and heat. Although the summer brings warmer weather, there are other issues to be concerned about. Extreme heat, humidity and rain can make any event unpleasant and put a damper on the festivities. If it is hot, you have to worry about food being affected and possibly spoil if out in the heat too long. Another issue is cocktail hour music and finding the appropriate power source for the musician or dj. If your event begins in the evening, you have to find or provide a light source to keep the outdoor area lit for guests. Men are usually dressed in Suits or Tuxedos…again.. making it even warmer for them. We suggest finding a compromise and host cocktail hour indoors with a view or an option for your guests to go out on a balcony on their own. To be safe and make your guests comfortable we suggest hosting your cocktail hour indoors.

Breakfast before the Baraat
Many couples have breakfast set up for their guests before the start of their baraat. If budget allows, it is a nice gesture and your guests would appreciate this. We recommend providing breakfast if most of your guests will be coming from out of town and staying at the hotel. This can be as simple as setting it up in a hospitality room so your guests can come in andout as they wish. Common items to set up for your breakfast include:
1. Cold cereals
2. Juice
3. Milk
4. Coffee
5. Tea/ Chai
6. Indian snacks
7. Fruit
8. Bagels
9. Muffins

Personal Touches!
Yesterday, we were looking for some original pillows to set for your cocktail hour! Finally... we fell in love with those cute pillows! It adds a nice personal touch and you can reuse them in your home. We are using this idea for a couple and putting them around the cocktail hour and at the mehendi event. Also, they are doing some for their hospitality room on the sofas.

BARS: HOW MANY TO HAVE?
When you are having a large event it may be difficult to determine how many bars to have for your guests. You want to make sure that no one is waiting too long for a drink all while being graciously served. A good rule of thumb is to have 1 bar per 100 guests. So if you have 500 guests then we suggest 5 bars spread throughout your venue or you can do 2 bars in the back of the ballroom with 2 bartenders each and one extra one for overflow of guests. This will allow your guests toget their favorite drink almost any where from your event with ease. We also suggest that you include some cocktail high tables around the bar area as this allows your guests to put their drink down, do this at the cocktail hour and the reception.

When it comes to the cocktail hour!
I had a bride ask me a good question this weekend.. am I allowed to come to the cocktail hour... the answer is YES!!!! The newest trend is to have both the bride and groom come to attend the cocktail hour. We suggest the groom where his tux but the bride where a beautiful cocktail dress and not the reception outfit. We found some long and glamourous cocktail dresses that would be the WOW factor for the guests. It is really a fun way to mingle with your guests.
Just because we love this short dress too!
