When creating your table assignments one of the most important things to know is how many guests fit per table. There are so many different table sizes that at times this can become a little tricky. We found the charts below which make it super easy not only to figure out how many guests you can accommodate on a table, but it also lets you know what size linen or overlay you would need. 

The most common table sizes are Banquet Tables of 6' and 8' feet, Round Tables of 60" and 72", 60" Square Tables and 36" Cocktail Rounds. Ask your venue what table sizes they have in their inventory and then follow the guides below.

It is important to make sure that your wedding has enough space for everyone to enjoy themselves comfortably without allotting too much space that the venue looks empty. It is also important to ensure that everything fits perfectly together, like tables and linens. It is more difficult than it may seem to select the correct tables sizes, linen sizes and dance floor sizes. Here are some tips to help you along the way of planning your wedding day.

Table sizes and linen sizes:

36” round sits 4 guests – 96” round linen (to the floor)

60” round sits 10 guests – 120” round linen (to the floor)

66” round sits 10 guests – 132” round linen (to the floor)

72” round sits 12 guests – 132” round linen (to the floor)

2 – 6’ long tables sits 10 guests – 90” X 132“

2 – 8’ long tables sits 12 guests - 90” X 156“

Dance Floor Sizes:

24 X 24 for a guest count up to 300 guests

32 X 32 for a guest count of 300 – 400 guests

36 X 36 for a guest count of 400 – 800 guests

42 X 42 for a guest count of 800 or more guests

It is handy to know how many people can be seated at which kind of table, and a little bit about how to put them together in ways that are both practical and aesthetic. Use the chart above to help create a floor plan that includes a nice mix of varied tables, balanced on each side of your banquet room.

            It can be a revelation to many who are planning seating for a wedding to find that it may not be necessary to rent additional tables. Your venue will generally have a range of standard round and long tables. Placed long sides together, six-foot and eight-foot tables will both make square tables ready for ten quests. A six-foot and an eight-foot rectangle table placed end to end creates seating for twenty, as do three six-foot rectangle tables places together in the same fashion. Note that while the seventy-two-inch round and two eight-foot rectangle tables together each may accommodate ten to twelve guests, twelve may feel a little crowded. If possible, keep it at ten for your guests’ maximum comfort. With just a little creative thinking, you will have saved some rental fees and designed a smart-looking room.
