Take Your Baraat to the Next Level

For an Indian Wedding, a great baraat will set the tone for what is to come during the day ahead. Getting the party started with a lively groom's procession is key for a memorable event.

When it comes to entertainment for the baraat there are many options, dhol players, sound van, or stationary sound, but why not take it to another level? Enter Jainsounds, a boutique artist-booking agency representing live bands. Their artist roster consists of some of the top names in the world and are home to the first Indian brass baraat band in North America.

Check out our two favorite bands:

Red Baraat
Led by founder and dhol drummer Sunny Jain, the band is comprised of dhol, drumset, percussion, sousaphone, and 4 horns and melds the infectious North Indian rhythms of the dhol with a host of genres and sounds, that can only simply be called, Brooklyn Bhangra.

Jina Brass Band
This is the 1st Indian brass band in North America. This baraat brass band brings the energy and excitement traditionally found at South Asian weddings. Live musicians play traditional baraat songs, classic Punjabi songs, as well as upbeat Bollywood numbers. The group is led by a dhol player and can include saxophones, trumpets, trombones and percussionists.

Fragrant Flowers for Your Wedding

During one of our decor meetings, a bride asked us for suggestions on flowers which are super fragrant. Not only are flowers beautiful to look at, but they can fill your wedding with a sweet, perfumey scent. Here are some of our favorites:

Lilies, especially Stargazers

Peonies

Lilacs

Garden Roses

Lavendar

Jasmine

Penn Masala

Penn Masala, have you heard of them? We had the pleasure of having such a talented group of young men serenade the bride and groom this past weekend. They are the world's first South Asian a cappella group, founded by students at the University of Pennsylvania. Their music has been influenced by both the Western and Eastern cultures. The group recently just released their ninth studio album and also had a cameo role in the movie, Pitch Perfect 2.

Check out their amazing video below, which was the bride and groom's first dance song. It was even better live!

SJS Real Weddings: Shilpa and Shravan

We are back in New York City after an unforgettable weekend celebrating the wedding of Shilpa and Shravan. The Diplomat Resort and Spa in Hollywood, Florida hosted close to 800 of their closest friends and family over the period of four days were guests enjoyed an opulent affair.

It all kicked off on Friday evening with a beach side Welcome Night, which had a latin flair to get everyone in the Miami mood. Saturday morning started with the bride and groom puja ceremonies and later in the evening the party officially began with their colorful Sangeet.

The night included multiple entertainment pavilions with 2 fortune tellers, 5 mehendi artists, a photo booth station, a nitrogen popcorn bar and even 2 champagne divas. Needles to say guests were kept entertained the entire evening. The evening also featured over 8 food stations from Tabla Caterers and endless dancing thanks to DJ Sharad.

Sunday morning started bright and early with a lively baraat followed by a traditional South Indian Wedding Ceremony. Guests were left speechless as they entered the ballroom and saw the extravagant stage set up which included more than 10,000 roses.

The weekend came to an end with a luxurious reception, predominantly in white with highlights of blush pink tones. A mirrored dance floor and hanging cake gave the finishing touches for this truly over the top event.

We want to send a huge thank you to all the vendors who helped make this wedding a huge success. Especially to Elegant Affairs for blowing us all away with their breathtaking decor during all of the events. To Frost for providing the state of the art sound and lighting which elevated all of the event to another level and to Xquisite Events for providing all of our rental items including all of our chairs and staging.

But most of all we would like to thank Shilpa, Shravan and their families, for entrusting the biggest day of their lives on us and allowing us to be a part of this truly special occasion.

Congratulations to the happy couple!

SJS Real Weddings: Prianca and Meelan

It was quite the wedding extravaganza this past weekend at the the Park Ridge Marriott and Rockleigh Country Club in New Jersey, for our fun-loving couple, Prianca and Meelan. It all started off with a festive Mehendi Event in the evening, where guests enjoyed psychic readings from lipstick and thumbprint readers, intricate designs from mehendi artists, and hours of dancing the night away.

The next morning, guests were welcomed into a picturesque, floral garden ceremony where our bride and groom finally tied the knot. The new Mr. and Mrs. made a spectacular exit during their vidhai in the Maybach 62.

The celebrations continued into a stunning reception with one of the most amazing dance numbers for grand entrances we have ever seen. It will truly be an unforgettable night for everyone.

We want to thank all the amazing vendors who have made this weekend perfect: Jashim Jalal Photography, Unique Visions Studio, Design House Decor, DJ Sunny Entertainment, Moghul Catering, Flawless Beauty by Pauline, Claudia from My Hair and Makeup, Juliet and the wonderful team at the Park Ridge Marriott, and Bari and the amazing team at the Rockleigh Country Club.
